Onam is Kerala's grandest and most beloved festival, celebrated for 10 days during the Malayalam month of Chingam (August-September). It marks the homecoming of the mythical King Mahabali, whose reign is remembered as Kerala's golden age of equality and prosperity. Onam is a harvest festival that brings together all communities of Kerala — Hindu, Muslim, Christian — in a shared celebration of culture, food, and joy.
ओणम केरल का सबसे बड़ा और प्रिय त्योहार है, जो 10 दिनों तक मनाया जाता है। यह पौराणिक राजा महाबली के स्वागत का पर्व है, जिनका शासनकाल केरल का स्वर्णिम युग माना जाता है।
Mahabali ek param daanveer asur raja tha jiske raaj mein Kerala mein sab sukhi they — koi gareeb nahi, koi dukhi nahi. Lekin devtaon ko chinta hui ki Mahabali bahut shaktishali ho raha hai. Bhagwan Vishnu ne Vaman avatar lekar Mahabali se teen kadam zameen maangi. Vaman ne do kadmon mein dharti aur aasmaan naap liya. Teesre kadam ke liye Mahabali ne apna sir jhukaya. Vishnu ne unhe Paatal Lok bhej diya lekin vardaan diya ki woh saal mein ek baar apni praja se milne aa sakte hain — yahi Onam hai!
Pookalam: Ghar ke saamne phoolon ki rangoli (flower carpet) banaayi jaati hai — har din ek nayi parakh jodi jaati hai. Vallam Kali: Snake Boat Race — 100+ log ek naav mein baithkar race karte hain. Alleppey ki boat race duniya bhar mein mashoor hai. Onasadya: Kele ke patte par 26+ dishes ka shakahari bhojan — Kerala ka sabse famous feast.
Onasadya mein kele ke patte par 26 se zyada dishes paroosi jaati hain — Avial, Sambar, Rasam, Thoran, Olan, Pachadi, Payasam (3 tarah ka!), Banana Chips, Ada Pradhaman, aur bahut kuch. Sab kuch nariyal tel mein banta hai. Yeh duniya ke sabse elaborate vegetarian meals mein se ek hai!
