Bihu is the most important festival of Assam, celebrated three times a year to mark the changing seasons and agricultural cycles. Rongali Bihu (Bohag Bihu) in April is the grandest — celebrating the Assamese New Year and the onset of spring. Bhogali Bihu (Magh Bihu) in January marks the end of harvest, and Kongali Bihu (Kati Bihu) in October prays for a good harvest. When people say "Bihu", they usually mean Rongali Bihu.
बिहू असम का सबसे प्रमुख त्योहार है, जो साल में तीन बार मनाया जाता है। रोंगाली बिहू (बोहाग बिहू) अप्रैल में सबसे भव्य होता है — असमिया नव वर्ष और वसंत के आगमन का उत्सव।
Bihu Naach: Dhol, pepa (buffalo hornpipe), gagana aur taal ki dhun par yuva ladke-ladkiyan Bihu nritya karte hain — yeh Assam ki pehchaan hai. Husori: Log ghar-ghar jakar Bihu geet gaate hain aur ashirvaad dete hain. Gamosa: Bihu par ek-doosre ko gamosa (traditional Assamese cloth) dena shubh maana jaata hai.
Pitha (chawal ke aate ka steamed/fried cake — til pitha, narikol pitha, ghila pitha), Laru (til aur nariyal ke ladoo), Jolpan (chira, doi, gur ka naashta), aur Masor Tenga (Assamese fish curry) Bihu ke khaas pakwaan hain.
